FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is AOLP a Freshman Leadership Organization (FLO)?

Although FLO's are a great way to develop leadership skills, AOLP is not one. Whereas FLO's are targeted towards freshman, AOLP is available for any and all current Texas A&M students (including graduate students).

Am I required to work all 20 New Student Conferences?

This year we are requiring all Orientation Leaders (OLs) to be available to work every conference of the season. While there may be conferences that you do not have to work, Orientation Leaders should assume they will be in attendance of all when it comes to scheduling.

What is the time commitment of an orientation leader?

AOLP spends all Spring semester training for NSC's through weekly General Meetings. Throughout the semester, AOLP also plans fun service projects and socials that are completely optional.

The summer schedule will be be finalized by the Spring semester. Please note that an Orientation Leader will work up to 29 hours a week. Due to this, we ask that our OLs  do not seek additional on campus employment. Flexible, off-campus employment is allowed however. Additionally, we ask our OLs to refrain from taking summer classes, unless they are online.

I am a senior graduating in May, can I still apply?

Unfortunately, we ask seniors who will not be present in the upcoming school year refrain from applying. We want to continue to connect with students during their first semester at Texas A&M in the fall. Those who graduate before the fall semester will not be able to uphold these connections.

However, students who will graduate in August or December of the upcoming school year are welcome to apply.

Can I apply to be in AOLP and Fish Camp?

YES! Many members of AOLP have also been Fish Camp Counselors/Staff. During the summer, there is a break between mid July to Mid August. We ask that our Orientation Leaders request to work a Fish Camp date within this time period in order to prevent conflicts with the conference schedule.
